The AHFC Energy Efficiency Kickstarter program is still accepting applications! AFHC has allocated $150,000 to assist public facility owners to implement energy efficiency projects. Kickstarter awards will be given to Cities, Tribes, and School Districts/REAAs across Alaska to accelerate energy efficiency project development. The maximum award is $10,000 per entity, with a maximum of $30,000 per community.
If your community’s public buildings – including city, tribe or school offices, community centers, teacher or senior housing, washeterias, school, and water treatment and distribution systems – need improvements to insulation, heating, refrigeration, ventilation or other equipment and systems; please contact SWAMC’s Laura Vaught, email@example.com or 907-562-7380.
Through the Kickstarter program, AHFC funds audits (or audit updates), detailed energy analysis, and project development to provide a city, tribe, or school district (for a specific school) with a finance-ready project. To do this, a contractor digs into the audit recommendations determines the highest payback retrofits and bases the analysis on actual costs for contractors, shipping, and more. The purpose of Kickstarter awards is to accelerate energy efficiency project development. The maximum award is $10,000 per entity, with a maximum of $30,000 per community (if multiple entities apply). Eligible entities are School Districts, Regional Education Attendance Areas (REAA), Federally Recognized Tribes, and Municipalities. The funding is provided through the U.S. Department of Energy.
Kickstarter applications are due by March 15 and projects must be completed by June 2018. Cities, Tribes, and School Districts looking for energy audits/project development on public buildings are encouraged to apply ASAP. The best candidates are entities with very high energy costs who are financially ready to fund retrofits (through a set-aside or loan) following a Kickstarter-funded energy analysis.
