Southwest Alaska Municipal Conference (SWAMC) is proud to be a presenter and exhibitor at the 40th annual ComFish Alaska. This Kodiak based, long running trade show brings together gear vendors, government agencies, and nonprofits involved in every aspect of commercial fishing. Forums on relevant topics are organized every year for the purpose of sharing ideas and fishing information with the public.
The three day event has presentations about everything from coast guard rescues at sea to legislative updates from senators Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan.
Tyler Kornelis from KANA Economic Development, Laura Vaught, the SWAMC Energy Coordinator,
and Jim Fowler of Energy Audits of Alaska will be presenting on “Investing in Your Business: Energy Efficiency and Vessel Upgrades” at 1:45 pm in the harbor room of the Best Western Kodiak Inn on Thursday, March 28th.
Learn about an energy audit and upgrade program for commercial fishers that’s currently available in
Kodiak and the rest of southwestern Alaska. Commercial fishers can request an energy audit focusing on specific upgrades of interest, such as Refrigeration upgrades (including RSW systems), LED lighting, Auxiliary engines to avoid use of main engines, Heat recovery for cabin, Variable-speed pump motors, Insulation in fish hold, and more. Once the audit is complete, commercial fishers can use the audit report detailing recommended efficiency upgrades and their associated savings and apply for a USDA grant that would cover 25% of the vessel upgrade costs.
The Kodiak Chamber of Commerce works with with community partners to offer a variety of fun and informative events surrounding the ComFish trade show. Event information will be added here as it becomes available.
