Commercial Building Energy Audits in SW Alaska

commercial building energy audit application
SWAMC is applying for a USDA grant that will give commercial facilities and businesses in the Aleutians, Bristol Bay, and Kodiak access to low-cost energy audits. If you or a business owner you know might be interested, please contact us. We need your letter of support to prioritize an energy audit for your business and strengthen SWAMC’s proposal.

For more information or a sample support letter, contact Jamie Hansen, Project Advisor, at jamie@iialaska.com.

Who can apply? Small businesses with commercial buildings or facilities in the Aleutians, Bristol Bay, or Kodiak regions. This includes but is not limited to: stores, hotels and lodges, multi-family residences, commercial fishing vessels, and privately-owned offices.

What would you get? Level 1 energy audit of your building or facility plus follow-up on funding options for retrofits. Level 2 energy audits are available, contact Jamie Hansen for more detail.

What would the cost be? The program offers commercial building owners a 75% reduction in the cost of an audit. Building owners are responsible for paying 25% of the energy audit cost. The typical cost for an energy audit under this program varies by building size:

Building Size (sq ft) Audit Cost Grant (75%) Owner (25%)
Up to 3,000 $600 $450 $150
3,001 – 6,000 $900 $675 $225
6,001 – 10,000 $1,200 $900 $300
10,001 – 20,000 $1,600 $1,200 $400
20,001 – 30,000 $2,100 $1,575 $525

What are the benefits? If retrofits are completed, potentially thousands of dollars in savings per year.

SWAMC will submit an application on January 30, 2018. If approved, the program would start in March 2018.
